DAUNTE WRIGHT

image

20 year old Daunte Wright was murdered by police in Brooklyn Center, a Minneapolis suburb today, April 11th, 2021 during a traffic stop.

As of 7pm, his body is still laying on the ground. Riot cops are on the scene with "less lethals" AND live weapons in response to a large crowd that has formed to hold space for grief and anger. Daunte's mother is there and speaking, and she shared the above photo of Daunte.

Of all the parallels we've seen so far, I think this one best demonstrates the difference between John Walker and Steve Rogers.

Steve easily could have killed Tony at the end of Civil War. In fact, Tony seemed to expect it; he raised his hands to protect his head from what he probably thought was the inevitable.

But Steve wasn't like that. Even in the midst of pure rage, he could never kill someone unnecessarily- good moral standards were at the core of every decision he made, regardless of his own emotional state.

John Walker is different. When he gets angry, morality is not his priority because ultimately he isn't a man of the people, he's a man who centres his own desires, no matter the cost. He doesn't stop to question himself because his ego won't let him.

Where Steve Rogers was measured, John Walker is impulsive. Where Steve Rogers looked out for everyone's best interests, John Walker looks out for his own.

Where Steve Rogers showed self-restraint, John Walker takes the kill strike.

in summary give the shield back to sam you dickhead anyways wyatt russell fucking smashed it this episode i haven't seen a man look so untethered since homelander in the boys tfatws mine fatws gifs cw violence steve rogers john walker

the fact that they’re dealing with racism so well in tfaws. the scene where bucky had to tell the cops that sam was an avenger so they wouldn’t arrest him for thinking he was bothering bucky felt like a slap in the face. sam wilson, a.k.a the falcon, an avenger who fought thanos on behalf of the universe, was about to get arrested because he was arguing with a white guy in the street. imagine what would happen if that white guy wasn’t bucky and some random guy who didn’t know sam. the police would’ve used brute force, arrested him for no reason, or even shot him right away. nothing we haven’t seen before, right?

it doesn’t matter that you were in the army for years. it doesn’t matter that you served your country. hell, it doesn’t even fucking matter that you helped saving the world. because when a white guy who’s wearing a uniform and has the authority to use a gun notices you don’t have the same skin colour, you’re doomed.

you’re a suspect.

your actions don’t matter but your skin colour does.

the fact that even marvel, a company that was blamed for making “shiny cgi movies with costumed, overrated actors for children” can’t stay silent about it anymore.

let that sink in.

(okay, let’s add a little note here. i’m not patting anyone on the back. i just thought that they were drawing some attention to the subject -call it bare minimum, it’s your opinion- and it’s refreshing to see in the mcu. they didn’t shy away from this and i thought it was an improvement for marvel. that’s it folks.)
